Ponca City’s KaSandra Lyons – Athlete Spotlight Presented By Equity Bank
- Updated: April 5, 2020
The Ponca City Character Counts honor goes to KaSandra Lyons, a senior basketball and volleyball player for the lady wildcats. Lyons has been a senior leader for the girls’ basketball team this year and it’s helped lead to an 11-6 record so far.
“My role on this team is more off the court as far as keeping the energy good and helping with problem solving especially if people feel like they can’t go to the coach with something. Just trying to be a good role model and leader for our team,” said Lyons.
With the good start to the season Lyons and her Ponca City teammates have big aspirations for the rest of the season.
“Our overall goal is to make it to state,” said Lyons, “just trying to make this year as fun as possible. Also just trying to good friends with everyone, just having team bonding events and getting closer as a family.”
Where Lyons really shines is on the volleyball court, where she helped lead Ponca City to the best year of her four-year career during the Fall.
“In volleyball my role is bigger just being a leader on and off the court especially with only three seniors. So, I major thing there was just getting the freshmen to interact with us and have everyone feel like we were friends.”
Lyons play in volleyball has earned her the opportunity to play at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. There she plans on getting a degree in business.
Lyons currently has a 3.4 GPA and is in her second year of the cosmetology program at Pioneer Tech. She’ll get her license at the end of the school year and plans on practicing during college.
