Ponca City’s Kale Gilbert – Character Counts Athlete Spotlight Presented By Ponca City Specialty Clinic
- Updated: April 5, 2020
Golf can be a rewarding and frustrating in every round you play. For Ponca City’s Kale Gilbert, golf keeps his interest thanks to the challenge of every round being different.
“Golf is never the same. Every round I play is different than any other. This makes the game very unpredictable, but that is what I love about it so much,” said Gilbert.
He started playing the game nearly 13 years ago around the age of five. Now a member of the varsity team at PoHi, Gilbert enjoys being around his teammates on the golf course.
“The thing I love most about my team and teammates is our drive to compete. We are constantly pushing each other to be better, while at the same time trying to beat each other. This makes playing and competing with them so much fun,” said Gilbert.
But the golf course is not the only place Gilbert excels.
“As much as I love the game of golf, academics have always come first for me. I have worked hard all four years of high school to maintain a 4.0 GPA along with playing golf year round. This fall I am going to be attending the University of Oklahoma. I am planning on majoring in either Business Finance or Pre-Med,” said Gilbert.
Away from sports, Gilbert serves as the vice president of STUCO while being a member of Youth Traffic Court and National Honor Society.
“My favorite subject that I am taking right now has to be Statistics, but my favorite subject throughout high school was definitely Chemistry,” said Gilbert.
When asked about the person he looks up to the most, Gilbert did not hesitate to mention his father.
“My biggest influence on and off the course is my father. He has always been the one to push me to be as good as I can be on the golf course, as well as being the best person I can be off the course,” said Gilbert.
