Pawnee’s Lexie Tatum – Athlete Spotlight Presented By Stillwater Medical Center Clinic of Pawnee
- Updated: April 5, 2020
A two-sport athlete at Pawnee High School, Lexie Tatum is at home whether she is on the golf course or the basketball court. Tatum started playing both sports at a young age thanks to her father. “I have always been around golf and I went to the course with my dad since I could walk but I didn’t start playing until I was about nine. Same goes for basketball, I started playing in second grade and played up with the third graders,” said Tatum.
Being a student-athlete at Pawnee High School is something very special for Tatum and building those relationships that last after the season ends is important to her. “I have always had a love for sports and being a part of a team. Pawnee’s community always supports their teams,” said Tatum. “In both golf and basketball we get along very well and I’ve grown many friendships that may not have happened without playing sports.”
Tatum does not limit herself to athletics. Academically she is involved in other activities including Beta Club, FFA and 4-H Club. “Academics are the number one priority, I have always stayed on top of my school work because it’s extremely important to me and I plan to attend college and major in business,” said Tatum. “My favorite subject would have to be math because I like numbers and my favorite teacher is Mrs. Eastman the Biology and Zoology teacher.”
But Tatum said her parents are the reason she is a successful student-athlete. “My biggest influencers definitely have to be my parents. They have always been by my side, helping me when I need and pushing me to be better. My dad knows a lot about golf and basketball and he has taught me everything I know on and off the field. My mom would go to every golf tournament with me and walk every hole with me and that meant the world to me. I’m very thankful for them and the support they have given me.”
