Cushing’s Harrison Wood – Character Counts Presented By Cushing Primary Care
- Updated: April 5, 2020
The Cushing Character Counts Honor goes to Harrison Wood, a senior baseball player for the Tigers. Wood plays center field and is also a starting pitcher for Cushing.
“I have a fastball, curve-ball and change up, said Wood, “I always try to throw a first pitch strike, after that I can mix in my off-speed and get people guessing.”
As a senior Wood will also be expected to be a leader for Cushing.
“My role is trying to be a leader whenever we are down and just try to get everyone back up and start a rally. I try to lead mainly with my actions and how I hold myself accountable, but also just trying to talk to the guys and pick them up,” said Wood.
At the plate Harrison is the lead-off hitter for the Tigers and says his approach is to just get on base by any means.
Coming off a disappointing season last year, Wood and his Cushing teammates have big goals for this season.
“The goal is to win a bi-district and to get a good seed in regional,” said Wood, “I think the main thing for us is just getting guys on base and then finishing the job, not leave anyone stranded.”
Wood is also a standout in football, during the fall he was an all-district first team wide receiver and scored seven touchdowns. He also gets the job done in the classroom with a 3.74 GPA.
