Stillwater’s Emma Pope: Academic Athlete of the Month Spotlight Presented By BancFirst Stillwater
- Updated: April 4, 2020
The Stillwater Academic Athlete of the Moth is Emma Pope, a senior for the lady pioneer soccer team. Pope is a midfielder and is also one of the team captains.
“I like to consider myself one of the leaders on the field and off the field. I try to just demonstrate good examples of soccer lifestyle and regular lifestyle as well,” said Pope.
Last season Pope helped lead Stillwater to the school’s best season in years with a record of 10-4 and trip to the playoffs. Pope says that can’t distract them from this season.
“We’re just trying to not compare ourselves to last season,” said Pope, “We had one of the best years in a long time, so we’re just trying to come in with a fresh mind, not compare ourselves and make it back to the playoffs. For me this is also probably my last season playing, so I just want to live in the moment and enjoy it.”
Pope is a standout in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA. She is also a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, FCA and Student Council. She gives back to her community as a member of Stillwater Makes a Change. It’s clear that she understands the importance of education.
“I recognize that while soccer is fun, I’m probably not going pro, so I realize I have to find something else to do. I’m also hoping to major in biochemistry and dental and I can only succeed in that while focusing on school,” said Pope.
