Perkins-Tryon’s Sam Taylor – Character Counts Athlete Presented By Perkins Primary Care

The Perkins Character Counts Honor goes to Sam Taylor, a senior for the Perkins baseball and basketball teams.

Taylor is the starting shooting guard for the Demons basketball team and has helped lead them to the postseason. During the season he has averaged 12 points, shooting 52 percent from three and 45 percent from the field, with 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

In baseball Taylor is the starting shortstop for Perkins, but he occasionally moves around the field. He also hits in the lead-off spot.

“I mostly just try to get on base,” said Taylor, “I try to see the first pitch just to see where he’s at, but if it looks good I’ll jump on it.”

In both sports Taylor is a senior leader for the Demons.

“I try to pick people up and don’t let people hang their head or be mad about past stuff and just try to keep them in the game,” said Taylor.

Outside of sports Taylor has a 3.4 GPA and does welding in the FFA program. After high school he plans on going to a junior college and might try to play either basketball or baseball. He plans on majoring in either forestry or parks and recreation.

“To me character is not letting your emotions get the best of you,” said Taylor, “also just keeping everything in control, also I think leadership is part of it and just picking people up and not letting other guys get in their own head.”
