VYPE MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES THE 2019-20 SHELTER INSURANCE MR. WRESTLING AWARD WINNER: KONNER DOUCET FROM COMANCHE HIGH SCHOOL
TULSA, OK (March 2020) – VYPE Magazine and Shelter Insurance are proud to announce the winner of the Mr. Wrestling Oklahoma Award, Konner Doucet of Comanche High School. Doucet becomes the third wrestler to win the coveted award. Doucet is the first Mr. Wrestling Oklahoma award winner to represent Comanche High School.
The Shelter Insurance Mr. Wrestling Oklahoma Award recognizes the outstanding athletic achievements of Konner Doucet and the high standards of athletic excellence and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the mat, which distinguishes Doucet as Oklahoma’s best high school wrestler this season.
Doucet finished an historic season with the Comanche Indians by winning the Class 3A state championship at 220-pounds. Under the leadership and guidance of head coach Jason Miller, Doucet wrestled to a perfect record of 50-0. “Konner is a great wrestler and even greater person. He is an excellent student in the classroom. He hasn’t lost in over 80 matches. He has 172 high school wins with 107 of them by fall. He had meant a lot to the Comanche wrestling program. He has learned a lot from all the major tournaments he has competed in and has shared that with his teammates. He has also helped bring recognition to the program and many of our wrestlers. Konner has a good head on his shoulders and we expect him to be successful at the next level. It has been an honor to coach him,” said coach Miller.
During the season, Doucet won multiple tournaments turning in MVP performances all season long. At the state wrestling tournament, Doucet pinned all three opponents on his way to his fourth consecutive state title.
VYPE Magazine Editorial Director Brad Heath said of Doucet, “Konner is the type of wrestler that you know when he steps onto the mat he is all business. It has been a pleasure to watch this young man go from being a freshman champion to now a four-time champion. He is in very exclusive company and adds his name to the list of the greatest wrestlers to ever step onto the mat in Oklahoma high school wrestling history.”
Doucet joins former Mr. Wrestling award winners; Daton Fix-Sand Springs (2017-18), and Zane Coleman-Choctaw (2018-19).
Other finalists for the Shelter Insurance Mr. Wrestling award included: Caleb Tanner-Collinsville, Eli Griffin-Cascia Hall, Dustin Plott-Tuttle, Garrett Steidley-Tuttle, Drake Vannoy-Jenks, Ryan Smith-Perry, Rocky Stephens-Collinsville, Ryder Ramsey-Tuttle, Dylan Avery-Perry, Kobi Gomez-Altus, Cougar Anderson-Skiatook, Josh Taylor-Skiatook.
Congratulations to Konner Doucet of Comanche High School.
