Blackwell’s Carson Garrett: Character Counts Presented By BancFirst Blackwell

By Ryan Stone

The Blackwell Character Counts honor goes to Carson Garrett, a senior basketball player for the Maroons. Garrett has helped lead Blackwell to a 6-5 record so far this season.

“I’m a starter and a role player for us,” said Garrett, “a big part of my role is three-point shooting and spacing the floor for our team and being a senior leader.”

Garrett knows his role as a leader is important and he takes the responsibility seriously. “I just try to set a good example, showing that effort and hard work isn’t important. It isn’t always about being the best player but trying your hardest,” said Garrett.

Carson and his teammates have big goals for the rest of the season. “Our goal is to make a deep playoff run,” said Garrett, “the last time we got to the area tournament was maybe 2001 so our coach has really been pushing to make a deep run this year.”

Outside of basketball Garrett is a standout in the classroom with a 3.75 GPA and is currently taking AP English. He is also a Student Council Representative and is involved in the pep club.

As a representative Garrett works concession stands at home basketball games and wrestling matches. They also clean up the school grounds a few times a year and organize a lot of the activities like school dances.

After high school Garrett plans on attending Norther Oklahoma College in Tonkawa to study pre-engineering. He then plans on transferring to Oklahoma State to study industrial engineering.
