Mannford’s Colby Jerome: Character Counts Presented Indian Electric Cooperative Inc
- Updated: February 16, 2020
A 14-year veteran of the mat, Mannford’s Colby Jerome is wrestling at 220-pounds this season after coming over from football. Jerome and his teammates are in the hunt for another district title.
“We are looking to win our third straight district championship,” said Jerome. “We are hoping for the most qualifiers for state this year than ever before from Mannford, and I think we can do it.”
The team has developed a real kinship in the wrestling room and that translates to more support during duals and tough workouts in practice. Also a power lifter, Jerome is excited to see what they can accomplish this season.
“What I love most about my teammates is the comradery and friendships made, and being competitive,” said Jerome. “My class is a very competitive class. We have all played sports together since elementary school; football, wrestling, baseball and basketball. We are a tight-knit group that enjoys doing everything together, whether it’s going to the lake, hunting, or supporting each other at various events. We would not be so close if it weren’t for sports.”
At Mannford High School, Jerome is a member of National Honor Society, Student Council and Gifter/Talented. Academics are a big part of his life on a daily basis.
“Academics are very important to me. My goal is to one day be an Orthopedic Surgeon, so I have taken as many science classes as I can as well as taking concurrent enrollment at Tulsa Community College both my junior and senior year of high school. I’ve maintained a 4.0 GPA,” said Jerome.
Jerome credits his parents and coaches for his success on and off the mat.
