Stillwater’s Tryton Sobonya: Character Counts Presented By Scott Leming StateFarm Insurance Agent

Stillwater guard Tryton Sobonya is focused on being more of a leader on and off the court this year.

“I want to play aggressively and confidently,” Sobonya said. “I have worked really hard and I want to continue to show that through my game. I want our team to play together and play hard. We might not have had the best start so far, but we’ll get there. We have a young team and we are getting better every day.”

The 18-year-old Pioneer senior likes to model his game after Russell Westbrook, and plans to play college basketball after high school.

“I have all my options open right now,” he said. “I don’t have any offers yet, but I’m staying humble. I want to get a degree in kinesiology or exercise science.”

In his free time, Sobonya said he enjoys getting shots up in the gym, working out, and watching movies.

Sobonya said he has accepted his role as a senior on a young team and wants to show his teammates what character means to him.

“On the court I play with passion,” Sobonya said. “I think that shows through my hard work. I want to show the next generation of players that you have got to be confident and aggressive, and if you put the work in you will be rewarded. Off the court I am just me. Basketball means so much to me. At the end of the day, I like that I know who I am and how hard I’ve worked to be where I am.”
