Stillwater’s Chrissen Harland: Academic Athletes Presented By BancFirst

The Stillwater Academic Athlete of the Month is Chrissen Harland, a sophomore girls basketball player. Harland is already off to a good start this season averaging 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals per game. As a sophomore she also carries a lot of responsibility for her team.

“I’m a captain and a leader,” said Harland, “I bring the energy for sure and I try to lead on both ends of the floor, I try my best to set an example for my teammates and always be positive. I try to treat it as I’m the same age as everyone else, we’re young this season anyway, so we just try to stay close and just grow together. This season is about seeing how good we can be next year because we’ll basically have the same team.”

Harland knows that this young team still has room to improve, but believes they have a bright future. “We need to learn to be more consistent, we’ll play strong for a while and then we fall off, if we learn to stay consistent, we can be a threat next season and later this season,” said Harland.

Harland is also a standout in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA, it’s clear academics are her priority. “It’s really important,” said Harland, “school comes before sports and my goal is to have straight A’s throughout high school and I’ve never had a B. Also, grades are important for college and your future.”

Harland also plays soccer for Stillwater and is involved in SMAC, a community service club.
