Stillwater’s Libby Harrison – Academic Athlete of the Month Presented by BancFirst Stillwater

By Ember McElrath

Stillwater High School senior athlete Libby Harrison is an active member of the cheer community. She cheers for football, basketball, and wrestling as well. Libby started cheering when she entered the eighth grade. She got involved in the sport after her friend Shelby was in the sport.

“She told me I should join the cheer team so I tried the next year,” said Libby.

Cheering is not just something Libby does for the high school, she also cheers and coaches at Impulse All Star Cheer Gym located in Stillwater.

Staying motivated in athletics can be difficult, but Libby was pushed and motivated to give her all by one of her previous coaches.

“One of my favorite cheer coaches Mackenzie Workman moved away last year and she always challenged me into getting better so I call her after every practice and tell her about how cheer is going,” said Libby.

Libby loves every part of cheerleading; her favorite part of the sport is getting to spend those game nights cheering on her high school.

“My favorite part of cheer is when I am cheering with my friends at Friday night football games,” Libby said.

This season Libby is looking forward to competing with her team at nationals.

“We are really good this year and I can’t wait to see how we do,” said Libby.

During her free time she enjoys spending time with her friends and going to the gym to work on their stunting skills. Trying to fit in studying can also be difficult for student athletes, but Libby makes it a priority.

“I study when I am on the bus going to and from games. It takes a lot of hard work and you have to be good at time management,” said Libby.
