Growing up watching the OSU Cowgirls play basketball is what inspired Avery Snethen’s love for the game. Avery grew up looking up to the young women who played for the OSU basketball team. She eventually become friends with one of the players.
“That really pushed me to become more invested in basketball,” Avery said.
Avery is a junior at Stillwater High School. She is a highly involved student, not only on the court but also with her classes. Avery participates in basketball, National Honor Society, and FCCLA. On top of all of her extra curricular activities Avery takes several AP courses at the school. Balancing a busy schedule can be difficult so Avery does her best to stay focused in class.
“I just try my best to complete my work in school when I have free time, otherwise it’s usually the first thing I work on when I get home after practice,” said Avery.
Basketball has taught Avery several skills on and off the court.
“Basketball has really helped me develop my communication skills, not just with me peers but with adults too,” Avery said.
With the help of basketball Avery has not only grown as an athlete, but attributes her confidence to the sport as well. Being a junior doesn’t hinder Avery from being focused on her future. Avery plans to attend college, and although her degree path isn’t entirely sure, Avery says she would love to do something in science.
