A person who has high character is one that does the right thing even when no one is watching. They strive to be an example to those around them. Ben Brock is one of those people.
“I’m honored to be named a Character Counts athlete,” he said. “It is a big responsibility to have people look to me on what to do. I have to always have that on my mind when I’m around them to show them the right way and to help them do it too.”
Brock is a junior at Pawnee High School, where he is a multisport athlete. He plays football, is a member of the powerlifting team, as well as the track and field team. While he enjoys all of his sports, he says football is probably his favorite.
“I really love the game,” he said. “I like being able to hit people and not get in trouble for it. I also like the bonds you form with your teammates as you go through the season and grow closer like a family.”
While a lot of high school athletes look up to college and professional athletes, Ben’s role model is a little closer to home. “My father, Mike Brock, is my role model because he has a strong character he stands up for what he believes in. He puts all of his effort into whatever he is working on.”
Success is something that Ben knows does not come easily, but instead, it has to be earned. “I’ve had to work hard,” he said. “I’ve spent a lot of time in the weight room and on the field getting myself ready to go out and help my team.”
Other than athletics, Brock is also involved in Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Academic Team.
