While the town of Stillwater is a college town, home to Oklahoma State University, it is also has a small town feel and has a group of people that support each other. And that is what Rita McClain loves the most about it.

“The community of Stillwater is a tight knit community with a large heart,” she said. “The members of the community always come together when someone is in need. Stillwater High School continues to build and develop strong, compassionate, and open-minded leaders.”

McClain is a graduate of Ponca City High School, where she was a member of the basketball, softball, and track teams, and also participated with the spirit squad.

Rita is the mother of two children, Lisa McClain and James Wilson. Lisa is a senior at Stillwater High School. She is a cheerleader and is also involved with Student Council, Stillwater Makes A Difference (SMAC), and the Beta Club. Her son, James, graduated from Ponca City, where he played football, basketball, and wrestled.

After years of accounting at ConocoPhillips, McClain is now enjoying her retirement. “I enjoy being active with school activities, traveling, and being around my family and friends. I volunteer when I am needed. I make sure that my schedule revolves around Lisa’s athletics and extra-curricular activities. I help make sure that she meets the obligation that she signed up for.”

Knowing the priorities is something that Rita believes is important for athletes.

“I believe it’s important to prioritize their activities, especially in sports because they can learn to manage events as well as learn the importance of being a well rounded team player. I also believe it’s important for them to set high goals and to fulfill them.”

Rita has been a member of the Booster Club at Stillwater High for five years. They are also lifetime members of the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association.
