Ponca City’s Lindsay Hollis – Character Counts Presented by Heather Cannon Honda

By Ember McElrath

Lindsay Hollis is a senior at Ponca City High School. She not only plays volleyball for her school, but she is Co-Caption as well, and in the running for valedictorian. Lindsay mainly plays as an outside hitter, but she is a versatile player playing setter and solid player on defense. Linsday has been playing volleyball since she was in the seventh grade and got her interest in the sport from her older sister. She would watch her play and then decided to start playing for the local club team.

Volleyball has taught Lindsay many things on and off the court; how to manage and handle stress is one of those lessons.

“When you are in the middle of a game and it’s coming down to the last few points you really have to stay calm,” said Lindsay.

Throughout her time in the sport she has learned that you need support in your life from those around you.

“It’s taught me you can’t do anything alone. Without a team you can’t go anywhere,” said Lindsay.

Linsday knows she couldn’t do this without her faith either.

“I Love playing for God because he has given me this great ability and the opportunity to use it,” stated Lindsay.

Linsday has many things she loves about the sport, one of them being the adrenaline rush.  “Jumping up to hit the ball and knowing no one is gonna stop you. Then swinging away and making what you want to happen, happen,” Lindsay said.

Linsday is a 17-year-old senior with amazing parents, Kim and Kirk Hollis. Her older sister Kaylie is one of her biggest fans, and a little brother, Luke keeps her on her toes.

This senior year Lindsay is looking forward to doing her best, not only for her team, but her town, school, family, and God. She is excited to give this last year of high school her all.

“I’m excited to give 110% on and off the court for my senior year and hopefully through that great things will happen,” said Lindsay.
