Head coach Richard Tuberville understands what it takes to win in Class 3A. He will look to his seniors this season for leadership if they are going to make this a season to remember. “We want this to be our best year ever,” Tuberville said. “This can only happen if our senior class is all-in and ready to do whatever it takes.” Leading that class is quarterback Nathan Winters (6-4, 190, Sr.). Winters is one of 11 returning starters on offense, a rare possibility for high school football. One of his targets in the passing game is Donald Houston (5-8, 160, Sr.) at wide receiver. The pair are on the same page and Houston could have a tremendous year. Same goes for flanker Aiden Jones (5-10, 170, Sr.). This trio could give opposing defenses all sorts of problems. Running back Jayden Welden (5-10, 180, Sr.) is a durable runner and a player that can make a huge impact this season on the ground. Tanner Hamilton (5-11, 220, Sr.) and Zach Eslick (5-11, 245, Sr.) start at center and tackle, respectively.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Pirates return seven starters this season. Zach Paslay (5-10, 180, Sr.) is one of those starters at linebacker. Paslay is one of the top tacklers on the team and will need to help some of the younger guys at his position develop into solid linebackers for the Pirates. Colby Jerome (5-9, 200, Sr.) and Dalton Haynes (5-8, 200, Sr.) anchor the defensive line, giving Tuberville two guys in the trenches that love to battle. Add Michael Dunn (5-9, 225, Sr.) at noseguard and you have a formidable threesome. Wade Landrum (5-9, 150, Sr.) and C.J. Porter (5-7, 170, Sr.) start in the secondary for the Pirates. Both guys have experience playing on an island. Tuberville said he wants more turnovers on defense this season. Look for the Pirates to force the issue on defense and play aggressive at every position.
