Stillwater’s McKenzie Vilade – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Scott Leming State Farm

McKenzie Vilade is a junior at Stillwater High School where she competes in track and is a member of the varsity volleyball team. As a member of the track team, Vilade competes in shot put and discus, but she has been out for several weeks due to injury.

“I have actually been hurt for most of this track season, but my team has been doing big, big things,” said Vilade. “I love how competitive everybody is and how we work together to achieve our team goals!”

Vilade loves being a student-athlete at Stillwater High School.

“Being a student-athlete at SHS is awesome. Everybody at the school supports you and truly wants the best for you and your team, they are always rooting for you. Also, most of the teachers are willing to work with your schedule and be flexible knowing that your sport is in season!”

Competing for her school is something Vilade does not take for granted. She makes the most of every opportunity afforded her on and off the field.

“Being able to participate and be a part of this great program is something that I don’t take for granted. Just to be able to go out and compete is something that is super special to me,” said Vilade.

The multi-sport athlete has competed in track for three years and she loves to play volleyball.

“I play on the Stillwater volleyball team, I participate in track, I am a peer advocate at the high school, and I am in Student Council. I also play club volleyball in Tulsa,” said Vilade.

Grades and homework always take priority over athletics.

“Being a good athlete is something that is very important to me but school has always come first! Being a student-athlete honestly drives me to do better in school and pushes me to be a good example of what a student athlete looks like,” said Vilade.

When she graduates in 2020, Vilade plans to attend college and continue playing sports while pursuing her degree.

“I am verbally committed to OBU (Oklahoma Baptist university) to play volleyball at the next level! I am super excited to go and experience everything it has to offer! Go Bison!”

During her down time, Vilade loves to spend time with friends and family when she’s not playing travel ball.
