Ponca City’s Sydney Hermann – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Heather Cannon Honda

Ponca City High School standout golfer Sydney Hermann was recently crowned the girls Class 6A state champion after her two rounds of 73 and 71 at Earlywine Golf Course in Oklahoma City.

Hermann was four strokes better than the second place finisher giving her top honors in the tournament.

“The tournament was my last high school tournament ever and I went in with a game plan the second day and it worked. The game plan was to play as aggressive as I could and coach Landes supported me through the whole thing,” said Hermann.

She did not know how her opponents were playing, so she kept her head down and played the final round as aggressive as she could.

“I had no idea how everyone else was doing. Emma, who was in first, got done about an hour after me. I had to wait for an hour to find out the results. It was stressful and nerve racking,” Hermann said.

That strategy proved successful and Hermann added her name to the history books as the top female golfer of 2019.

Her journey into the golf world started at the age of six when her father got her started in the game. Now a senior in high school, Hermann is taking her game to the next level.

“I will be attending Dalton State in Georgia on golf scholarship,” said Hermann.

But her time at Po-Hi and her teammates helped make the experience a special one.

“I love that they make me laugh because it helps the pressure and nervousness go away,” said Hermann. “I enjoyed representing Ponca at tournaments and doing the best I could for everyone in Ponca.”
