Ponca City’s Kale Gilbert – Character Counts Presented by Phillips 66

Ponca City High School junior Kale Gilbert, is a member of the varsity golf team and Student Council Treasurer. Next year, Gilbert plans to run for Vice President of his senior class while participating in Youth Traffic Court. Gilbert has been a success on the golf course and in the classroom.
“Academics are very important to me along with athletics. I take pride in my academics and being able to manage both golf and school,” said Gilbert.
The junior started playing 13 years ago and has continued to work hard to represent Ponca City and his teammates at every tournament in the best possible way.
“I love being a part of this team. I consider them my second family. It makes me very proud to be able to represent Ponca City in golf,” said Gilbert. “I love how no matter what, we are constantly supporting each other.”
This season, Gilbert and his Wildcat teammates made the state tournament. Something they can all be proud of.
“This season was very good. We won our home tournament. We also made it to state for the first time in about seven years,” said Gilbert.
Gilbert shot a 77 in the opening round of the state tournament and followed that up with two rounds of 80 to finish with 237 strokes, good enough for a 37th place finish. The Class 6A state golf tournament featured 73 golfers.
Gilbert is rarely not on the golf course. You can usually find him working on his golf game, but when he does get some free time, Gilbert enjoys hanging out with his friends. His future plans include going to college and possibly playing golf at the collegiate level.
“I either plan on going to college to continue playing golf or go to the University of Oklahoma to continue my education.
