Seventeen year-old Dylan Smith of Stillwater High School has excelled both as a member of the Pioneers basketball team and academically in the classroom.
Smith has played the sport since he was in kindergarten and began playing because of his older brother, who actively played and passed the passion down to him.
Smith said his favorite part of playing basketball is meeting new friends and getting to travel to different places to play games. He also enjoys competing because he likes to break past the players guarding him and prove to the other team how skilled he is.
“My favorite sport memory would be winning the Broken Arrow tournament and getting nominated for all-around tournament team,” Smith said.
His coach, Michael Davis, is proud of Smith’s accomplishments both on and off the basketball court.
“Dylan Smith is a young man that I am proud to have on our team and he has been great for Pioneer basketball both on the court and in the classroom – he’s a class act,” Davis said.
Smith is a member of the National Honor Society and vice-president of the Afro-American club at Stillwater High School, a club focused on informing the school and students about diversity. He also holds a 3.75 GPA.
After graduating this May, Smith plans to continue playing basketball at the collegiate level and pursue a career in athletic training.
