Stillwater High School senior Taylor Grooms is riding a wave of success in her final year as a Pioneer. From the classroom to state competitions in Pom, Grooms has enjoyed the dividends of her hard work.

“This year has gone great for me academically and athletically. I made high grades in my classes this semester, and at pom state, Stillwater Pom left winning the Class 6A Academic All-State title and second place in the 6A Small Varsity Pom category,” said Grooms.

Grooms and her teammates are more than friends. They are like family and this season their willingness to sacrifice and work hard for each other resulted in success during the state competition.

“My favorite part about my team and my teammates is the love we share for each other. Over the past few years, we have all grown so close. My teammates are all wonderful people, and they are the best support system. It is amazing that I get to spend my time practicing and performing with my best friends,” said Grooms. “My teammates are so funny and optimistic! No matter how difficult practice may be, they always manage to keep the atmosphere positive and supportive. We share an endless amount of inside jokes and memories, and I am beyond thankful to have such amazing friends inside and outside of practice.”

Academically, Grooms carries a high grade point average and is looking forward to continuing her education at the next level.

“My academic success is one of my top priorities. Although pom, dance, and work keep me busy, it is important that I still find time to complete my school work. I know that a strong education will take me far in life, so I keep my focus on this aspect of my life. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school, and I hope this will lead to success in college and in my career,” said Grooms. “After high school, I plan to attend college and eventually become a doctor.”

Presently Grooms is a member of the Student Council, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Stillwater Makes A Change, Afro Am, and Math Club.

“My favorite club is Stillwater Makes A Change, or SMAC for short. SMAC is a student led philanthropic organization dedicated to raising money for local beneficiaries. Last year we raised over $170,000 for Our Daily Bread, a local food bank. This club taught me that everyone is capable of making a change in their society, no matter how old they are or what skills they possess,” said Grooms. “My favorite part about being a student-athlete in Stillwater is the support I receive from my school. Stillwater’s faculty and students are extremely supportive of the pom team as well as many other sports and activities. They encourage and help us succeed in all academic and athletic efforts. At pom state, Stillwater had more fans on the court than any other school, which shows how enthusiastic our school is for our success.”

Grooms said her mother is the biggest influence in her life, teaching her how to perservere through difficult times with a positive attitude.

“I give her credit for my strong work ethic and grit,” said Grooms. In her free time she enjoys attending dance classes and doing makeup. “I have a strong passion for makeup artistry, and it is my favorite hobby.”
