Ponca City's Mackenzie Crowder – Character Counts Presented by Phillips 66

Mackenzie Crowder is a varsity swimmer at Ponca City High School. Being a part of the team is something Crowder loves and her willingness to swim any event makes her a valuable commodity.

“I love how much we have team bonding and how close we are as a team. They are my second family,” said Crowder.

Head coach Heather Harris said of Crowder, “She is a leader even if she doesn’t have the title of being the captain. She swims whatever event I put her in and never complains. She does extra dryland and is always wanting a harder set in and out of the pool. I can tell her what to change and she does it. She listens and respects everyone.”

As a team, PoHi is performing well at meets.

“This season we have been working harder than we ever have before! The team all around has been doing great this season. So far, we are 5-1,” said Crowder.

Only in her second year of varsity swim, Crowder is capable of swimming in multiple events.

“I started to swim last year. I swim the 50 yard free, 100 yard free, 200 yard medley relay, 200 yard free relay, and occasionally he 400 free relay. I also swim the 200 yard freestyle,” said Crowder.

She is also a member of a swim club and has plans to compete in track this spring.

“I swim for the Ponca Sailfish Club team and I will also be throwing in this upcoming track season,” said Crowder.

In the classroom, Crowder is just as passionate about her grades. She has plans to attend college one day and is working hard to land an academic scholarship.

“Academics are very important to me. I plan on getting a great scholarship to a great school for my academics mainly,” said Crowder.
