Bayleigh Hudgens: Ponca City Spotlight – Presented by Equity Bank
- Updated: February 1, 2019
The 2018-19 swim season has been a good one for Ponca City High School swimmer Bayleigh Hudgens. Hudgens is a big part of the team, swimming in several solo events and on the relay teams.
“This season so far has gone great! I’m so proud to say that I’m on the Ponca City swim team because it’s just such a supportive group and we all just cheer each other on. It also helps that we are 5-1 right now,” said Hudgens. “I started swimming my freshmen year when one of my friends, who had been on the swim team, talked me into it. Now I compete in a couple of different things like the 200 IM, 200 free, 100 fly, as well as swimming on relays.”
Her passion for the sport and her team is obvious when you talk to Hudgens. She is the ultimate team player.
“I love the fact that my team is so supportive of each other. It’s more like one big family then a team at this point,” said Hudgens.
Her passion for academics also exceeds expectations. In the classroom, Hudgens is focused and always prepared.
“Academics are extremely important to me. Staying focused on school is pretty difficult with all the extracurriculars that they provide but I’ve somehow always managed it. Clubs and sports are fun and all but it’s important to keep grades up at all times. They call us student-athletes and the student part always comes first,” said Hudgens.
Hudgens serves on the Student Council, is a member of the Symphony Orchestra, involved in the youth program at First Baptist Church and swims for her club team, the Ponca City Sailfish.
Head coach Heather Harris is doing an outstanding job with the team and they are looking forward to competing at state. Hudgens and her teammates are looking forward to finishing out what has been an outstanding season in pool.
